TRAINING SPECIFICATION DOCUMENT FOR TIMBER FRAME
DESIGNERS PROJECT
1 January 2006 to 31 March 2007
TRAINING DESIGN PROCESS
Based on previous Training material produced by the UKTFA for Site Erectors and
Manufacturing Operatives it is intended that the Design and Development for Timber
Frame Designers follows a similar pattern as shown below.

If parity is acceptable then the Bronze and Silver Workbooks will be the same
at Health & Safety and Knowledge Skills. This in effect means that everyone
in the Design specialisation will be at the Silver Level as a minimum for H&S
and Knowledge.
It is recommended that the same basic Training Design principles be used for
both the Practical Skills and the Knowledge Skills during the Research phase so
as to determine the Training Objectives and Subjects to be covered. Furthermore
these Objectives will then be sub-divided across each of the three different types
of manufacturing plants the Project will cover, i.e.
- Automated
- Semi-Automated
- Manual.
The information collected by the Working Party will be in agreement with the
companies Management Team and will investigate what source material is available
and what current training methods are used.
It is expected site interviews with key staff will also be necessary from top
to bottom to find out the main areas of concern and priorities the training should
address.
It may also be necessary to develop a questionnaire to increase the coverage
of the information collected. This will be decided by the Working Group to determine
if it will add value to what has already been obtained.
It is estimated that the Working Group meet for the first time for a full day
to determine the Programme outline and relevant Sections the Workbook will cover
at each Level.
The Documentation for the Health & Safety has been enclosed, as a guide to
the basic format in which the information should be provided.
PRACTICAL SKILLS - DESIGN
The Training Design for this part of the Programme needs to be conducted across
Members Sites and Factories and cover the following generic categories of Manufacturing
Plant.
- Automated
- Semi-Automated
- Manual.
It is envisaged that at least two sites from each should be consulted.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS - DESIGN
The Design process will follow a similar exercise to that carried out above and
will be sub-divided where appropriate into the same following categories.
- Automated
- Semi-Automated
- Manual
