    Flood Resistance

FLOOD RESISTANCE - TIMBER FRAME STANDS STRONG

Flooding is a major problem for some people in the UK and may get worse with the impact of climate change.

Ultimately, planning policies should influence the location and layout of sites to minimise vulnerability to climate change. For example, Sustainable Urban Drainage systems can help rivers and drainage infrastructure to cope with heavy rains and water run-off from high density developments.

The UKTFA supports current research into flood resistance. Where housing may be built in locations that are at risk, we encourage the use of flood resistant floors, walls, sanitary fittings and general services within homes to improve their resistance to flooding and reduce the impact of flood damage.

Timber frame homes will meet the new LPS2020 standards produced by the BRE for developments built using modern methods of construction. This satisfies insurers, mortgage lenders and others about the future durability of timber frame homes in flood conditions.
